Are you staying within the lines?
Give a two year old a crayon and a piece of paper, they will start drawing lines and shapes and by the end scribble over the whole page!
Give them a crayon book with pictures to color and see how well they stay within the lines. Most small children want to color a perfect picture and not make any mistakes but because of lack of experience they can’t seem to get it right.
As they grow older they get better and better and by age six most can color pretty well!
This hit me when I thought about our Christian walk. We start out lost with no direction, scribbling on life’s page where we please, not caring what it looks like. And along comes an awesome God who can teach us how we should walk and how to stay within His guidelines.
At first it’s really difficult because we are not used to instructions of what we can do! As time goes by we learn the importance of pleasing God with our lives and helping others come to know Him!
How crazy would it be for an adult not to be able to color within the lines using a crayon? Wouldn’t make any sense with all the years of practice, still failing a simple task. You know if I’m honest my Christian walk I don’t always stay within the guidelines of the Bible, the coloring book of a Christians walk if you will. Doesn’t make sense after years of salvation to find yourself past the boundaries and scribbling your life away and with folks all around you wondering where is your maturity.
You may not be able to erase your mistakes made by a crayon, but there is a mercy and grace extending Father who can wipe away your every stain!!!
Don’t live life asking for an eraser daily, live to please the God who saved you and won’t ever let you go!
